Fellow TGS Colleagues:

It is a special honor and privilege to begin my term as president of the Texas
Geriatrics Society. First and foremost, I would like to start by recognizing a
person who has set the standard for excellence in service to our organization, our out-going president Dr. Sandra Hazelip.  I also wish to acknowledge the dedication, hard work, and pivotal role of the board members and staff in reaching out to professionals in Texasinvolved in the care of older adults.

As we all know, the US population is aging, the landscape of the health care system is rapidly changing, and there is a serious shortage of providers caring for our seniors in the nation and in the state of Texasin particular.  For these primary reasons and with the main goal to promote high quality patient care and offer leadership and guidance to providers caring for older adults in the state of Texas, a group of dedicated and devoted physicians, following the lead of the American Geriatrics Society, volunteered their time and energy to establish the Texas Geriatrics Society, which this year is at its 22nd anniversary. I am extremely honored to be part of this organization.  Since its founding, it has strived to fulfill the need to provide its members opportunities for continued medical education and improving care for older adults in the state.

I want to encourage every one of you to stay active and involved with the organization and its wonderful initiative.  Our board members are already hard at work and have begun planning for 2012 board meetings and conference.  We would welcome your feedback regarding speakers and topics as we wish to ensure that the content is interesting to you and most importantly relevant to your practice.

It will be a privilege to serve you as president and I will work hard to make this organization stronger. I value your input and feedback and would be delighted to hear from you.

Thank you for you trust and support.

Youcef Sennour, M.D.
President, Texas Geriatrics Society
